Olympia Events has released its Grand Plan report showcasing strategic ESG activities and results for 2023.
Led by 20 sustainability ambassadors from across the company and its service partners, the ESG strategy focuses on three key areas: community, environment, and collaboration.
According to the report, in 2023, the venue cut water usage by 38.2% compared to 2022 and reaffirmed its commitment to using 100% renewable electricity backed by REGOs (Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin), reducing electricity consumption by 5.3% and gas consumption by 2.1%.
Anna Golden, commercial director at Olympia Events, said: “There is a long way to go for us to reach our goal of Net Zero by 2050. However, in 2023 we’ve taken some really significant strides in understanding the sources of our carbon emissions, reducing them, and planning for further reduction.”
Last year, Olympia revealed that 72% of its carbon footprint originates from Scope 3 emissions, which include those from its supply chain. The venue has now surveyed its top 20 carbon-emitting suppliers and initiated workshops with them. Olympia has also developed a bespoke tool to track and manage suppliers’ Scope 1 and 2 emissions.
Several significant contributions were made to the community in 2023. Through its charitable trust, the venue contributed over £30,000 to local schools, supporting education and enrichment programs for students. Furthermore, Olympia Events staff volunteered 112 hours on various community projects throughout the year and numerous donations were made to local colleges and charities.
Siân Richards, head of sustainability at Olympia Events, said: “Giving back to the community and progressing our net zero programme demonstrate our dedication to creating a more sustainable future. We remain committed to leading by example and inspiring positive change in the events industry and beyond.”
