The Association of Event Venues (AEV) has launched a mentoring programme for junior event managers.

Intended for newly qualified and junior event managers, event assistants or co-ordinators starting their careers, or any venue placement students studying or training for a career in event management, the mentoring programme offers a 12-month plan to support growth and career development.

Jill Wadge, team manager – event management (conferences & exhibitions), Scottish Event Campus (SEC) and current AEV event managers working group chair, commented “We are excited about the mentoring programme, it gives us a chance to share and shape those following in our footsteps. The next generation, so to speak, are enthusiastic about the industry and looking to increase their expertise, confidence and all-round event industry knowledge.”

Candidates can peruse the 13 mentors via the AEV website, review their bios and select the preferred person to support their career. Once paired with a mentor a start date is agreed to suit both parties. All sessions are confidential.

Rachel Parker, director, AEV said “We are delighted to introduce the new mentoring programme. It is important we invest in our industry’s future and ensuring the talent grows and learns from current experience is vital. Thank you to our member event managers and heads of events for volunteering their time, experience, knowledge and passion for our industry.”
